Five years ago I made Sara her first period box — and with it, I initiated a little tradition. So now that Ava has ‘come of age’, she too got her special present!

As I explained in my previous post about this subject, the idea of giving this box is to prepare, and also to normalise. But at the same time to celebrate!

For Ava’s first period box, I used a pretty shoebox which I decorated with some cool cutouts. Inside, I put:

• organic tampons and sanitary pads

• period underwear (we love the Muse Period Briefs from Sagitamed and they come in children’s sizes too!)

• a cute bear bath bomb and Miffy face mask

• lavender essential oil (calming and relaxing)

• hug in a cup herbal tea

• chocolate

• tinted lip balm

• a little 'emergency' pouch with a few tampons, pads, sanitary wipes and painkillers — for in her school bag

Like Sara, Ava was so excited when I gave her the box. The little pouch has immediately been transferred to her backpack, and the box has gotten a prominent place in her room.

Sara, in the meantime, still uses the box I gave her five years ago to store her sanitary products.
